NFL gauging interest in LA football team

Proposed LA Stadium

The NFL is taking some serious preliminary steps in moving a team to Los Angeles. It was reported by the LA Times that the NFL will send out a questionnaire form to 2,000 locals to determine the demand for a professional football team and to find out what kind of stadium local residents would want.

Is it now inevitable that a football franchise will come to the city of angels? Not quite. It is a sign that the NFL is no longer procrastinating about the possibility of an LA football team. This is a first step in a long process to determine whether the juice is worth the squeeze for an LA team. This is the first time in this century the NFL has conducted such a survey in the LA market.

Earlier this month Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said that an NFL team is "highly likely" to come to the city in the next year.

There are several sites that would be in consideration should the NFL allow any current franchise (most likely the Rams, Raiders, or Chargers) to make a move into LA. The current St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke has purchased a 60-acre parking lot in Inglewood, Calif., there is the Grand Crossing site that is 20 minutes east of downtown LA, and there is the Farmer's field site that is right next to the Staple Center. It is anyone's guess which site a football franchise would land on, but chances are if the Rams want to move they would use their owner's newly acquired parcel.

Los Angeles is the second largest media market yet it hasn't had an NFL team since Tonya Harding's ex husband whacked Nancy Kerrigan's leg. Yes, it has been that long.

Do you believe there will be an NFL franchise in LA in the next few years? Which franchise do you believe it should be? Let us know in the comments section below.
