Vereen says Bryan Stork is a "grimy guy that loves the trenches"
Earlier this week, Patriots dynamic running back Shane Vereen called into the Gresh and Zo Show on 98.5 The Sports Hub to discuss a number of things pertaining to the team coming off an encouraging home win against the Bengals.
That win was a game that saw drastic improvement by the team's offensive line, which had struggled immensely in the first three games of the year. Tom Brady was clearly more comfortable in the pocket, and the team's running game was productive as well- both testaments to improved play up front against a formidable Bengals front.
Rookie Bryan Stork has been a key piece in solidifying the line-up we saw on Monday night. His ability to hold down the center position has allowed veteran Ryan Wendell to play guard, along with captain Dan Connolly, with Nate Solder and Sebastian Vollmer manning the tackle positions. Stork's rapid improvement has negated the involvement of Marcus Cannon and Jordan Devey at the guard positions, which has proven to be a positive for the team.
Shane Vereen had high praise for the rookie out of FSU yesterday afternoon:
“I love the Stork. I love the man. He’s a hard worker. He’s a grimy kind of guy, likes to get down in the trenches. And the good thing is he loves his job. He loves being the center and loves to get in there,” said Vereen. “I was talking to him and I said, ‘I’m looking forward to play with you. I’m glad you’re gonna be in there’ and he says, ‘Shane. You see this ass? Just follow it.’ You’ve got to love it.”
Stork anchored the offensive line of the 2014 BCS Champion Florida State Team, and won the Rimington Trophy in the process, awarded to college football's most outstanding center. He was also a first team all ACC-selection.
Ever since he was selected in the 4th round as the 105th overall pick by the Patriots, there has been significant speculation that he would be a contributing member of the offense this season. It's still early, but he has shown the potential to be a fixture on a line that has at times looked like it good be the downfall of this Patriots team.
