Will TebowMania return to the city that never sleeps?

New York Daily News cover

News Flash! The New York Jets don't have a quarterback.

After the debacle that was called a game in San Diego there is a lot of turmoil for the quarterback position. So why not throw some gasoline on the fire?

Former first round pick Tim Tebow seems to be the solution according to the editors of the New York Daily News. During his short term in New York Tebow he played on special team mostly and completed only 6 out of 8 passes when he did throw the ball for 39 yards. And yet he is supposed to be the answer to the Jets problems?

Tim Tebow is currently an analyst for the SEC network and now a contributor for Good Morning America. Since his stint in New York Tebow was briefly on the New England Patriots team during the 2013 preseason. He saw plenty of action against in the preseason game against the New York Giants. Tebow was 6-for-11 for 91 yards, throwing a pair of touchdown passes and one interception, and gained 30 yards on six carries.

So is it reasonable to not only believe that the New York Jets would bring Tebow back, but would start him?

Let me preface my answer.

I am a Florida Gator. I cheered along with thousands of others at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium as I saw Tebow and Percy Harvin decimate the pathetic LSU Tigers 51-21 in 2008. I cheered when the Broncos drafted the Heisman winner in the first round in 2010. When I heard the Patriots acquired him in 2013 I went on online and ordered a Patriots Tebow t-shirt as soon as I could.

Keep that all in mind when I say that the Jets organization would be bat shit crazy to bring in Tim Tebow.

In his NFL career Tebow had a completion percentage of 47.9, he threw 17 touchdowns and turned the ball over 16 times (interceptions and fumbles). His total quarterback rating was 33.4. Does that sound like someone who could come into any NFL team and make a difference?

In 2013 the Jets selected Geno Smith as their 2nd round pick and you cannot expect him to make miracles in his second year. Besides having almost no offensive weapons (Eric Decker was not playing in the Chargers game due to injury) he also has no time to throw the ball due to an offensive line has allowed him to be sacked 8 times so far this season. The Jets need to show some patience and invest in some offensive lineman so whoever does start as the quarterback has some protection.

No quarterback could come in and solve the Jets problems. It is understandable why Jets fans are willing to throw everything and the kitchen sink at their problems, but for a large news publication to seriously suggest that Tim Tebow would come in and start for the Jets is like suggesting that Ray Rice will be elected the President of the National Organization for Women.

Do you think Tebow will be back on the Jets roster this season? Let us know in the comments.
