Jonas Gray takes the high road

The most exercise Jonas Gray got on Sunday was during warmups. It was newcomer, RB LeGarrette Blount who filled in with 78 yards on 12 carries and two TD's against the Detroit Lions.

Josh Alper, PFT:
Patriots running back Jonas Gray shot from obscurity to the cover of Sports Illustrated by running for 201 yards and four touchdowns against the Colts last week, but the elevator back down to Earth may have travelled even faster.
Gray arrived late to practice on Friday, which caused coach Bill Belichick to send him home and devise a game plan that called for Gray to get zero snaps against the Lions.

It is admirable that Jonas Gray has "moved on. " He knows he has no choice. There is always precedence with the Patriots as to who starts and who sits. Jackie MacMullan, Boston:
When Richard Seymour's grandfather died in December 2003, Seymour missed multiple days to attend the funeral and mourn with his relatives. Coach Bill Belichick, who wanted him back sooner, removed him from the starting lineup the following week against Jacksonville. It wounded Seymour deeply at the time, although, he says now, he has a better understanding of Belichick's point of view.

Bill Parcells warned us that Curtis Martin was “not ready for Canton yet” after Martin’s inaugural game against the Cleveland Browns on September 3, 1995. Curtis rushed for a 30 yard TD run on his first carry. He finished the day with 102 yards on 19 carries. Jonas Gray nearly doubled that production in his first assignment.

"The fans, with all due respect, they don't affect the decisions I would make as a coach." - Bill Parcells

It looks like Bill Belichick was warning the fans, too. Bill Belichick said only: "We do what we think is best. That's what we did today."
