Even Obama thinks Deflate Gate is a Joke

"I usually tell a bunch of jokes at these events, but with the Patriots in town I was worried that 11 out of 12 of them would fall flat." Obama tried to make a joke. A few people laughed and snickered, even Belichick cracked a grin and gave a thumbs down, but it simply wasn't funny. Because Deflate Gate isn't funny anymore.

Obama would later save some face by stating that the "whole story got blown a little out of proportion." The sad thing is "a little out of a proportion" may be a dramatic understatement at this point. We are onto day 91 of Deflate Gate. That would be 13 weeks without a conclusion on something that should have been cut and dry if the Patriots did something wrong. So where's the hold up? Where is the investigation at this point?

Without an end in sight. With the NFL Draft less than a week away.

This has gone from a potentially crippling blow to the legacy of the Patriots, to arguably one of the biggest screw ups in NFL history. People couldn't even laugh as one of the most powerful men in the world tried to make a joke of it. The joke has gone on long enough.

You have Robert Kraft demanding an apology if it turns out the Patriots aren't guilty. Rob Gronkowski stated, in front of national media, that the Patriots themselves are stilling wondering what's happening. The members of the media that were once so outspoken about how wrong it was that the Patriots "cheated" have been quiet on the topic. Things have been shifting sides

What news and rumors have come out recently?

These reports are a far cry from the last ditch efforts that several media sources tried to throw out there to badger the Patriots reputation. Remember the rouge ball boy? That lasted long. Remember the 11 of 12 balls being two PSI under regulation? That was eventually shot down as false. The ball that was intercepted felt deflated? The player himself said that was nonsense.

The longer this drags out, the worse the NFL looks. If this ends in the Colts or the officials being at fault, it will be one of the largest failures in recent memory for the NFL. Not because they themselves failed, but because they were too proud to admit it while the Patriots took the bullets for them.

We still do not know for sure if the Patriots are guilty or innocent, but at this point who cares? It was gotten to a point of annoyance, where people don't want to talk about it, even if they hold disdain for the Patriots. Most people, on both sides just want this to end so we don't have to watch Goodell blabber on about not knowing anything.

So as we sit and wait, Roger Goodell and Ted Wells are likely planning a contingency plan, should Wells not find a smoking gun for the Patriots. The NFL will look to cover all of its bases so that the Patriots can not seek reparations, and so that they look as good as they possibly could given the degree of this failure.

When all is said and done, maybe the Patriots will be holding up another Lombardi before Deflate Gate comes to a conclusion.
