First Patriots Life Mock Draft
Monday night, Patriots Life writers Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) and Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) went through a live Twitter mock draft, drafting the entire first round. Here is a recap of the picks:
In the coming weeks, look for the Eyes on the Draft series where we will break down each position of need in the draft each week. This week we look at DTs. The following weeks will focus on CBs, OGs, and then WR/RB/LB respectively. Further mock drafts are being looked into, with a goal of a more detailed mock draft for the Patriots closer to the draft.

Pick 1 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Florida State QB Jameis Winston
With the 1st overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select QB Jameis Winston
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
The Buccaneers desperately need a QB and they are high on Jameis Winston. He had a pro ready arm and should step in and be the starter day 1
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 2 - Tennessee Titans: USC DL Leonard Williams
With Winston going #1, at #2 the Titans will draft the best player in the draft with DL Leonard Williams out of USC. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
With a DL of Sammie Lee Hill & Jurell Casey, the Titans needed more of an impact player in the middle to take on two blockers #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 3 - Jacksonville Jaguars: Clemson DE/OLB Vic Beasley
The #3 pick belongs to the Jacksonville Jaguars. They will select DE/OLB Vic Beasley from Clemson. #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
With Williams gone at #3 Jacksonville takes the most explosive defensive player on the board. Immediately boosting their front 7.
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 4 - Oakland Raiders: West Virginia WR Kevin White
OAK needs targets for QB Derek Carr, so OAK will draft WVU WR Kevin White who may be the most complete WR in the draft #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
With White, James Jones, Andre Holmes, Kenbrell Thompkins & Mychal Rivera, the Raiders will have enough receiving options to compete.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 5 - Washington Redskins: Missouri DE/OLB Shane Ray
WSH picks DE/OLB Shane Ray from Missouri with the #5 overall pick #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Adding Terrence Knighton in FA and Shane Ray in the draft that front 7 becomes something other teams definitely need to worry about
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 6 - New York Jets: Florida DE/OLB Dante Fowler Jr.
With the 6th pick, the #Jets will select Dante Fowler Jr. who will be able to play OLB and DE in the Jets defense. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
With Calvin Pace's contract expiring at the end of the year, and Todd Bowles love of defense, the best OLB in the draft could fit perfectly.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 7 - Chicago Bears: Alabama WR Amari Cooper
With the 7th pick, the #Bears take WR Amari Cooper. Giving Jay Cutler another playmaking receiver. #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Adding Amari Cooper immediately fills the void left by Brandon Marshall. No excuses for Jay Cutler now, time to perform #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 8 - Atlanta Falcons: Nebraska DE/OLB Randy Gregory
With the 8th pick, the #Falcons will select OLB/DE Randy Gregory. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
The Falcons defense was awful last year, and their pass rush was nonexistent. Adding Gregory would provide athleticism to that front seven.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 9 - New York Giants: Iowa OL Brandon Scherff
With the 9th pick, the #Giants select OL Brandon Scherff
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Adding Brandon Scherff bolsters the Giants o-line and will give Eli that clean pocket he need to play the way he is capable of #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 10 - St. Louis Rams: Oregon QB Marcus Mariota
At #10, a bit of a surprise, but the #Rams will take QB Marcus Mariota w/ Nick Foles' contract expiring at the end of the year #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
The Rams have needed a QB for some time, and Foles doesn't seem like a long term solution, especially with an expiring contract.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
The Rams offense is built around speed and athleticism, and Mariota could provide a solid centerpiece to pair with Tavon Austin & Tre Mason.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 11 - Minnesota Vikings: Michigan State CB Trae Waynes
With the #11 pick, the #Vikings select CB Trae Waynes
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Adding a Trae Waynes gives them a strong 1,2 CB combo with Xavier Rhodes on the other side of the field #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 12 - Cleveland Browns: Washington DT Danny Shelton
With the 12th pick in the draft, the #Browns will select DT Danny Shelton. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Shelton is one of the most impressive DTs in the draft in terms of size & strength. He will be needed against the likes of the AFC North RBs
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 13 - New Orleans Saints: Texas DL Malcolm Brown
With the 13th pick, the #Saints select DE/DT Malcolm Brown #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Malcolm Brown is a 5 technique DT that gives the #Saints d-line flexibility and is arguably the best at his position #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 14 - Miami Dolphins: Louisville WR Devante Parker
With the 14th pick, the #Dolphins will select Louisville WR Devante Parker. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
The Dolphins badly need another WR to complement Kenny Stills and Jarvis Landry. Parker is in the top tier of WRs in the draft this year.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 15 - San Francisco 49ers: LSU OL La'el Collins
With the 15th pick, the #49ers select LSU OL La'el Collins.
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Adding Collins fills the middle of the offensive line, and allows them to get back to ground and pound football #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 16 - Houston Texans: Miami OL Ereck Flowers
With the 16th pick, the Houston #Texans will draft OL Ereck Flowers. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Despite his size & college position, his skill set looks better at OG where the Texans could use a powerful LG to help in the run game.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 17 - San Diego Chargers: Florida OL D.J. Humphries
With the 17th pick, the #chargers select OL D.J. Humphries
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
San Diego's number 1 priority is protecting Phillip Rivers, adding Humphries fills that need #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 18 - Kansas City Chiefs: Florida State OL Cameron Erving
With the 18th pick in the draft, the Kansas City #Chiefs will select Florida State C Cameron Erving. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
With Rodney Hudson leaving to join the Raiders, the Chiefs need a center, and Erving may be the best one in the draft. Running is key in KC.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 19 - Cleveland Browns: Washington S/LB Shaq Thompson
With the 19th pick, the #Browns select Shaq Thompson
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Adding Shaq Thompson gives the Browns flexibility to play him wherever they think he fits. Tremendous athlete. Great value. #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 20 - Philadelphia Eagles: Alabama S Landon Collins
With the 20th pick, the Philadelphia #Eagles will select Alabama Safety Landon Collins. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
After missing out on Devin McCourty in FA, the Eagles will need a safety to shore up a secondary that has to face Dez, OBJ, DJax, Cruz, etc.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 21 - Cincinnati Bengals: Arizona State WR Jaelen Strong
Try 2: with the 21st pick, the #bengals select WR Jaelen Strong
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Adding another big wide receiver opposite AJ Green makes that a dynamic offense quickly. #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 22 - Pittsburgh Steelers: Washington CB Marcus Peters
With the 22nd pick, the #Steelers will draft a CB. With a few still on the board, my guess is Washington's Marcus Peters. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
The Steelers are in crippling need of a CB, and honestly I can't see them going anywhere else. Cortez Allen and William Gay aren't ideal.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 23 - Detroit Lions: Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon
With the 23rd pick, the #Lions select RB Melvin Gordon #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Adding Gordon makes a pass heavy offense more balanced and will take the stress of Matthew Stafford #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 24 - Arizona Cardinals: Kentucky DE/OLB Bud Dupree
With the 24th pick, the Arizona #Cardinals will select OLB/DE Bud Dupree out of Kentucky. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
An athletic edge player would fill the need for an OLB for the Cardinals. Technique and motor are raw and questionable, but can flash.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 25 - Carolina Panthers: Central Florida WR Breshad Perriman
With the 25th pick, the #Panthers select WR Breshad Perriman.
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Adding Perriman will give Cam Newton more options outside of Olsen and Benjamin, and makes that offense a legitimate threat #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 26 - Baltimore Ravens: Stanford OL Andrus Peat
With the 26th pick in the draft, the Baltimore #Ravens will select Stanford OT Andrus Peat, despite them badly needing a WR. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
The Ravens LTs were awful last year. According to PFF, Eugene Monroe had a -12.9 rating & James Hurst had a -24.9, the 6th worst of 84.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 27 - Dallas Cowboys: Georgia RB Todd Gurley
With the 27th pick, the #Cowboys select RB Todd Gurley #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
After losing Demarco the Cowboys move forward with Gurley. Giving them that RB they are looking for after losing Murray. #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 28 - Denver Broncos: Oregon DT Arik Armstead
With the 28th pick in the draft, the Denver #Broncos will select Oregon DT Arik Armstead. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
After losing Terrance Knighton in FA, the Broncos will need some meat up front and Armstead is a great way to fill that void.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 29 - Indianapolis Colts: Oklahoma DL Jordan Phillips
With the 29th pick, the #colts select DT Jordan Phillips #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Adding Phillips to the Colts interior D-line will give them a fighting chance at stopping the run against the Patriots. #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 30 - Green Bay Packers: Virginia DE/OLB Eli Harold
With the 30th pick in the draft, the Green Bay #Packers select Virginia OLB/DE Eli Harold. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Julius Peppers isn't getting any younger, and the Packers need a pass rush. Harold could start day one at OLB or as a pass rusher.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
Pick 31 - New Orleans Saints: Missouri WR Dorial Green-Beckham
With the 31st pick, the #Saints select WR Dorial Green-Beckham #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
The most polarizing player. Risk/Reward player. Saints need a game changing receiver. DGB could be that. #PatsLifeMock
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
Pick 32 - New England Patriots: Florida State DT Eddie Goldman
And the pick we've been waiting for...with the 32nd pick in the draft, the #Patriots will select FSU DT Eddie Goldman. #PatsLifeMock
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
At 6'4", 334 lbs, he will be the big man at DT to replace Wilfork. He won't sack the QB, but he won't need to with Sheard, Nink & Jones.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
He is one of the larger DTs left at this point in the draft and will take on double teams and hold the line of scrimmage.
— Adam Bogdan (@PatriotsInform) April 6, 2015
And that concludes the #PatsLifeMock with @PatriotsInform thanks for following along everyone!
— Andrew Ludwig (@aludwig25) April 6, 2015
