Patriots release Tim Wright

The Patriots announced this morning that they have released tight end Tim Wright.

Wright was acquired just before the start of last season in a trade with Tampa Bay. The Patriots sent guard Logan Mankins to the Bucs and received Wright and a 4th round pick in return. The Patriots used that fourth round pick to draft defensive end Trey Flowers in May.

Wright had 26 receptions for 259 yards and 6 touchdowns. He wasn't even targeted in the three playoff games.

While Wright is young and has a lot of upside, the addition of Scott Chandler this offseason made the tight end a crowded group. It would seem that Wright was the long shot of the group to make it and the team is releasing him early to give him a chance to catch on with another team.
