Report: Broncos tried to get Joe Thomas from the Browns

Fresh off their trade for veteran tight end Vernon Davis, the Denver Broncos are trying to go for the jugular. The 7-0 Broncos reportedly offered a first round pick for All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas of the Cleveland Browns.

According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, the Browns wanted more than just the first round pick. They asked for Shaq Barrett, a young Broncos linebacker. Denver halted trade talks after that.

Denver needs all the help it can get on its offensive line. The unit has been weak for a large part of the season and have been without the service of Ryan Clady, who suffered a torn ACL towards the end of May.

They also recently lost backup left tackle Ty Sambrailo, so the position is incredibly thin. It wouldn't be shocking to see Denver make a move for a left tackle, but the Browns asking price may be too much for the Broncos to pay.
