An early-Friday-morning post to Jimmy Garoppolo’s Instagram created a social media frenzy among football fans.
The post on his page includes a photo of him holding the Super Bowl trophy with a message that states, “So grateful for my time in New England. Peace out Boston.”
But it looks like the post was a prank or hoax, and the New England Patriots’ backup quarterback isn’t going anywhere…for now.
NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport and NESN.com’s Doug Kyed both claimed that they spoke to people close to Garoppolo and that no one had any knowledge of a trade, leading them to believe his Instagram was hacked.
Spoke to someone close to Jimmy Garoppolo who had no knowledge of any trade and believes it's a hack. Alas, it's 5:26 am now & we're all up— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 10, 2017
Source close to Jimmy Garoppolo tells me QB hasn't been traded to his knowledge, and the Instagram post sound like a "prank/hack."— Doug Kyed (@DougKyed) March 10, 2017
