New England Patriots vs Jacksonville Jaguars: Preseason Game 1 Recap

AP, MARY SCHWALM
Football is finally back in New England, which is always a good thing, despite the Patriots losing their preseason opener to the Jaguars by the score of 31-24. The Jags took an early 17-3 in the first half, riding the legs of Leonard Fournette. He looked strong to start the game on his way to a touchdown, proving why he was a top 5 pick.

The Patriots were able to tie the score at 17 after two touchdown drives by Jimmy Garoppolo. He orchestrated a pretty two minute drill to end the half, connecting with Austin Carr for the score. Then an early touchdown throw to K.J. Maye in the third quarter knotted it up. Jimmy finished the game 22 of 28 for 235 yards with 2 touchdowns and no picks. He looked sharp on the short and intermediate throws. The Jags were able to pull away in the third, scoring two more touchdowns. A rushing score by D.J. Foster in the fourth made it close, but the Pats came up short in the end.

The biggest concern in these eyes was a second quarter injury to DE Deatrich Wise. He appeared to take a knee to the head trying to make a tackle. He remained down for some time, but walked off the field under his own power. He has had a monster camp so far, so this is something to keep an eye on.
