Braxton Berrios is being compared to Julian Edelman

The New England Patriots were without star receiver Julian Edelman last season.

This year, they could possibly have two of him. Well, sort of.

One of the Patriots’ sixth-round draft picks this year belonged to former Miami wide receiver Braxton Berrios. While spending four years at The U, Berrios racked up 100 receptions, 1,175 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Standing at 5-foot-9 and weighing about 189 pounds, Berrios is already drawing comparisons to Julian Edelman. Berrios could learn a lot from Edelman this year. They are very similar in positions and skillsets, as Berrios is also a slot receiver who can return punts.

Former New England Patriots executive Mike Lombardi spoke highly of this certain late-round pick.

“You watch this guy play and you say, ‘Wait a minute, this is Wes Welker. Wait a minute, this is Danny Amendola. Wait a minute, this could be Julian Edelman,’” Lombardi said. “Classic New England Patriot. Now, he’s got to get stronger. He’s like 189 pounds and he’s got to get more physical. He can return punts, he’s got great hands. He’s going to be an inside-the-slot receiver. He shows enough toughness. I thought this was a great pick.”
