Nickell Robey-Coleman walks back comments about Tom Brady

Sounds like someone got in Nickell Robey-Coleman's ear.

After so eloquently destroying the Patriots and saying Tom Brady isn't as good as he used to be, the Rams cornerback seemed to back off of those thoughts at Opening Night.

NBC Sports Boston:

“That was out of context,” Robey-Coleman said. “Tom is a great quarterback. He’s the GOAT. He’s a legend. I’m not taking nothing from his game. I was asked a question about the difference between the past and now, I said his age. It wasn’t about ‘He’s old.’ I’m not taking nothing away from him. It was just his age.”

Except he literally said his age is beginning to show, which means he thought Brady isn't as good as he used to be. So this isn't a great answer and Robey-Coleman is just digging himself a deeper hole. I'd have more respect for him if he owned his original comments.

However, he did double down on his comments about hating the Patriots as a team.

"I was asked a question of where [the hate for the Patriots] all started from," Robey-Coleman said. "You naturally not like New England just because they're the rival in the AFC East. We play them twice a year. Other than New England, it's the Miami Dolphins, so that's what I was faced with in Buffalo. That's it."

At least that's fair. But even so, Robey-Coleman is now public enemy No. 1 this week.
