Along with rookie Dont’a Hightower, OLB Jermaine Cunningham has been labelled as one of the Patriots standout performers in training camp.

After struggling with injury for the majority of his two year spell in the NFL, it looks like Cunningham is ready to have a breakout year on the Patriots defense. With the Patriots switching their base defense to a 3-4, they will need great rushers to go along with linebackers Hightower, Jerod Mayo and Brandon Spikes, and while Rob Ninkovich and Dane Fletcher saw a lot of playing time last year, if Cunningham can keep up the work ethic and performance during training camp and the pre-season games, he might be able to get himself a starting role on the defense. And in an interview with the Boston Herald, he knows the importance of building on a good start in training camp:

“Every year is make-or-break year for everybody, not (just) me individually,” he said. “You have to go out there and show what you got, and be the best player you can be.”

This is the attitude Patriots fans love, if you go out onto the field and do your job as well as you can, there’s always a place on the roster for you.  Let’s hope Cunningham’s progress can continue.
