Greg Salas joins practice squad after clearing waivers

Wide receiver Greg Salas, who was waived on Tuesday, will return to the Patriots' practice squad, according to a league source.

Salas cleared waivers on Wednesday. The 24-year old was acquired in a Sept. 1 trade for a late-round draft choice in 2015.

He did not play in the regular-season opener and was inactive on Sunday's loss to Arizona.

This is kind of how we expected this to go down. Still, it's questionable why the Patriots would initially cut Deion Branch, trade for - what amounted to - a practice squad receiver and then bring Branch back. Have to chock this up as a Belichick mistake. Yes, he makes some.

Salas actually got some buzz last year as a fashionable fantasy football sleeper, however an injury derailed his season. Perhaps he can develop on the practice squad this season.
