Shane Vereen is out Sunday, as per usual

The Patriots released their injury report for Sunday's game today. Shane Vereen highlights the list as the only player who is ruled out for this game. Though since Vereen injured himself early on in the third preseason game, this move was expected.

It also brings up some other questions with Vereen. We've seen glimpses of his talent in both the preseason and in garbage time against Kansas City last year. Still, those are just glimpses. He's yet to be able prove enough that he can be counted on day in and day out in the backfield and he so far hasn't been able to stay healthy for very long. Should Stevan Ridley ever struggle or catch another case of the fumbles, Vereen will likely get his shot.

Still, we've seen it before that talented players who can't stay healthy - and can't show the coaching staff they can be relied on - often miss their opportunities.

Vereen was inactive many times last year, and starting off this new season the same way cannot be how he hoped this would go.
