In case you didn't know, the Patriots are interested in Danny Amendola

Not really any sudden or surprising news here, but the possibility of free agent WR Danny Amendola becoming a New England Patriot seem more and more likely. So this has been considered almost a gimme for a while now, but with Wes Welker deciding to test the market, Amendola could be a factor in Welker's contract negotiations. Writer Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com says that Amendola could have more of an effect than previously believed:
“The ace in the hole for the Patriots is Danny Amendola.”

Florio continued to make a valid argument. Barring a history with injuries, Amendola provides a tough and younger option that could  most likely slip into Welker's slot position smoothly. He had also thrived in Patriots OC Josh McDaniels' offense during McDaniel's days in St. Louis. As for why the Rams did not sign or franchise Amendola, Florio elaborated:

“The Rams couldn’t justify putting the franchise tag on Amendola because, for a slot receiver, to pay him $10 million, you just can’t justify paying him that much money, but it’s an important position to take care of. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Amendola is a Patriot next Tuesday.”
With free agency officially beginning on March 12th, signing Amendola could add leverage to the Patriots side of contract negotiations with Welker. If Amendola becomes a Patriot, it would seem ludicrous to give Welker the big-money that he is looking for. Signing Amendola may possibly mean that the Pats are ready to move on, unless the right price is negotiated with Welker.
