McShay predicts Patriots will take UConn CB in first round

Mel Kiper's arch-nemesis Todd McShay's third mock draft of the year has the Patriots selecting University of Connecticut cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson with the 29th pick.

Cornerback being a glaring need for the Patriot's defense, McShay "cites size, toughness, instincts and intangibles among Wreh-Wilson's strengths, but notes that his 40 time in the 4.5's may ultimately push him out of the first round."

Wreh-Wilson is 6'1", 195 pounds, and was a captain at UConn. During his time in Storrs he secured 8 picks. While Wreh-Wilson is a new name to surface as a potential Patriots interest; draft "expert" McShay has him as the third selected cornerback in this mock draft. The Patriots selected Darius Butler, a cornerback out of UConn with the 41st pick in the 2009 draft. While he has found a starting role with the Colts, Butler was a bust in New England.

The Patriots are about as unpredictable as it gets when it comes to drafting, but it is pretty easy to see that cornerback is perhaps their most pressing need going into next season. Obviously much is dependent on how things unfold with Alfonzo Dennard (jail) and Aqib Talib (free-agency, and based on his past off-field issues, maybe jail as well).

So depending on how much you value Todd McShay's mock drafts (personally, I think they mean nothing), Wreh-Wilson may be a player to keep an eye on.
