Alfonzo Dennard sentenced to jail but won't miss football
Alfonzo Dennard punched a police officer in Nebraska almost a year ago. The incident happened prior to the draft and caused one of the top corner prospects to fall all the way to the seventh round, into the Patriots' lap. It was a big risk by the Pats, not only because of the personality issues that could exist after an incident like that, but because Dennard could go to jail for up to six years.
He was convicted back in February and sentenced this morning.
sentence for Dennard: probation for 24 months on each charge, to be served concurrently, but 30 days in jail starting March 1, 2014

Dennard didn't get the lightest of sentences, but it's one that both he and Patriots fans can probably live with. 30 days in jail in March of next year means that he won't miss any football related activities. He's also unlikely to be suspended by the NFL since this happened prior to the draft, his fall in the draft is likely punishment enough.
According to Shalise Manza Young, Coach Bill Belichick wrote a letter of support for Dennard.
It's sad to see Dennard have to go to jail, but I'm sure he's happy it wasn't the six year maximum he faced, or that he won't miss any of training camp or the season, which could've cost him a job.
