A Positive Outlook on the Tim Tebow Signing

Before I write about why Tim Tebow is an awesome signing, I need to preface this column by saying something about my personal bias and the story of where I found out about Tebow becoming a Patriot (at least briefly).

I love Tim Tebow. Plain and simple. I was born and raised in Georgia, the heart of the Bible Belt; (my family is from New England, hence my fan allegiance) thus, I admire Tim Tebow as a man of faith. I received a text that Tebow was a Patriot and checked my email to find fellow PatsLife writer, Liam Cunningham, saying "FUCKING TEBOW." I believe that meant he was thrilled... Right? I was at VBS (Vacation Bible School) helping with registration with four older women, and I could not hold this great information in to myself. I said, "Hey everyone, Tim Tebow was just signed by the New England Patriots!" In which all of these wonderful church women, who most likely do not care too much for pro football, responded with various exclamatory remarks of happiness at the mere mention of his name. Truly the Bible Belt, and no better place to have other people agree with me about how smart of a signing that was - whether it was logical or illogical reasoning did not matter at the time.

However, after my irrational joy subsided and I had ordered my custom Tim Tebow Patriots jersey online, I rationalized why this signing is amazing. Here we go:

#1: He is a good Christian man Belichick Can Handle Tebow-mania
This means that the signing of Tim Tebow cannot hurt the Patriots. Mike Reiss said it best, "Tebow brings a media crush unlike any other. Watch as Belichick takes great pleasure in extinguishing it." This is not New York, Belichick makes football decisions. If Tebow affects the locker room negatively, which I will explain why he won't, then he will get cut and that will be that. It is just like signing any other #3 quarterback for a roster spot.

#2: Just Another Way to Make Rex and the Jets Look Dumb
Belichick did it with Woodhead, and he made the Jets pay for it.

It is a guarantee that the Patriots get within five yards of the endzone and put Tebow in simply to score a touchdown against his former team.

#3: Reports of Studying at Tight End
Whether Tebow will have success at tight end remains to be seen, but Belichick relies heavily on the tight ends, and Gronkowski is not exactly invincible.

Great tweet here:

#4: Doug Flutie-esque signing as a QB

It is safe to say from reports, and the fact that the Patriots cut Kafka to make room for Tebow, that he is being signed as a QB, but may not be exclusively studying there. Mike Reiss made a great comparison between Tebow and Doug Flutie, and how Belichick viewed these two as QB3's.

"Sometimes Bill Belichick sees something in a player -- both on and off the field -- that makes him want to have him around the team. In Flutie's case, there was great respect for his competitiveness and history in the game, and how he'd fit in the quarterbacks room with Tom Brady and rookie Matt Cassel," writes Reiss. "Similar to how he viewed Flutie, Belichick has great respect for Tebow's approach to the game and his team-first approach, and it makes sense to think he'd view that as a positive addition to the locker room."

Time will tell, and we will see tomorrow where is lines up at training camp.
