Vereen says Pats offense 'slipped up' at the end of 2012

In 2012 the Patriots had undoubtedly the most explosive offense in the NFL. Leading the league in points per game with 34.8 and yards per game with 427.9 on top of averaging the quickest time between plays, they were simply a powerhouse. So how did this juggernaut offense slow down and eventually get stumped by the Ravens in the AFC Championship? You could argue that injuries finally caught up or they had a bad game, or this or that or blah blah blah... For whatever reason(s) it was, they lost a step at the end. Running back Shane Vereen wasn't afraid to admit that:
"I think as an offense we felt like we slipped up, especially at the end of the season, the way the season ended," Vereen told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Monday (via ESPNBoston.com). "Going into OTAs, that was our focus. There is still a lot we need to work on, there are a lot of new faces, it's still a younger offense, and so we have a lot of jelling to do. But I think we're on the right track."

The Patriots offense has taken some serious blows over the offseason. Leaving the whole Wes Welker vs. Danny Amendola debate aside, Rob Gronkowski and now even Aaron Hernandez seem to be big question marks. Will the Pats be able to reclaim their (statistic) status as the best offense in the league for 2013? Who knows... but in a few quick months we will all find out.
