2013 Over/Under: Kenbrell Thompkins

OVER/UNDER: 50 receptions (Regular Season)

Prediction- Under (40 interceptions): The new sweetheart of Patriot's nation is Kenbrell Thompkins, who was one of the most impressive players in the Patriot's first preseason game against the Eagles.

Thompkins was on the receiving end of 4 of the 7 total passes Brady threw on the touchdown drive, gaining a total of 23 yards. But he ran great routes, and had an excellent backshoulder reception when he outmuscled a Eagles D-back who had good position on him. And most importantly, he seemed to have a connection with Brady.

Rave reviews had been coming out of training camp about Thompkins, an undrafted rookie out of Cincinatti. But he lived up to the early hype in his first appearance on the field, and could potentially be a significant contributor to the reinvented Patriots offense.

The question is, how much of a contributor. I set the Over/Under for his regular season reception total at 50 receptions. I'm not ready to put him at that level yet, but could see him grabbing around 40 passes. But if Thompkins continues to play as well as he did on Friday, he could become a key piece of the offensive unit. A connection with Tom Brady and an understanding of the offensive system is truly invaluable on this team, and something that not many players grasp as quickly as Thomkins appears to be.
