Giants 20 Patriots 28: Recap

The Patriots wrapped up their preseason tonight beating the Giants 28-20. With Tom Brady and the starters resting, Ryan Mallett got the start. Mallett led a 12 play, 86 yard drive ending with a touchdown run from undrafted rookie George Winn, who finished the game with 54 yards rushing. On the first play of the Patriots next drive, Mallett threw a 40 yard touchdown pass to the rookie wideout Josh Boyce.

Giants running back Andre Brown broke his leg at the end of the first half; this is the second straight year he's suffered a broken leg, breaking his fibula against the Green Bay Packers last season.

After a few uneventful drives including a Ryan Mallett interception, it was finally Tebow time. Tebow, basically playing for his roster spot and his NFL career, threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to undrafted rookie Quentin Sims. So Tebow must make the roster now, right? Well, not really. In the next series, he threw a classic Tebow pass that was intercepted by Trumaine McBride. BUT!! At the end of the 4th quarter Tebow threw another touchdown pass to Quentin Sims! He might not only make the roster, but he might start over Brady! Tebow finished 6-11 with two touchdowns and a pick, while also rushing for 30 yards.

Zach Sudfeld caught the two passes thrown to him, while Aaron Dobson caught three passes on eight targets for 35 yards. Kenbrell Thomkins, the standout player this preseason out of all rookies, caught two passes for 24 yards. Patriots win the game 28-20.

The Patriots need to cut down to 53 players this week so we'll see what they do with good 'ol Timmy. @joeloobs @PatriotsLife
