Patriots cut two notable players, still more cuts to come today

The Patriots released six players yesterday in an effort to get to 75 players by 4 pm today. There's one more to go but let's take a look at what's been done so far.

Most notably, Niko Kououvides and Kamar Aiken.

Phil Perry, CSNNE:
Comcast SportsNet's Mike Giardi tweeted on Monday that the Patriots have told Koutouvides to stay ready in the event they are able to bring him back on the roster in the near future.

The Patriots also released wideout Kamar Aiken, rookie corner Brandon Jones, corner LeQuan Lewis and long-snapper Mike Zupancic.

Being released is nothing new to Koutovides. He was released by the team last year and actually watched one of the team's games in a bar in Connecticut before returning to the team a few weeks into the season. It's an unforunate practice that many Patriots players have been accustomed to.

Additionally, Kamar Aiken was a player that was receiving some attention in camp. The receiver was thought by some to have a chance to make the roster, that will obviously not be the case. However, Aiken might not be leaving New England. Mike Reiss of ESPN reports that Aiken could land on IR.
