Patriots biggest draft failures in the past few years.

The Patriots have had their share of picks not working out in recent years, and it shows--mainly on defense. While some selections were good, most have been pretty weak and the player drafted often didn't contribute that much to the team and is most likely gone. So who exactly have the Patriots missed out on after drafting players who never worked out?

2008 NFL Draft:

Rd. 2, pick 62: Terrence Wheatley DB. Tenure on the team: 2008-2010. Currently: Free Agent
Who did the Patriots miss out on?

Rd. 3, pick 73: Jamaal Charles RB. While RB wasn't a huge need at the time, Maroney wasn't exactly working out and was eventually cut two seasons later after the 2010 season.

2009 NFL Draft:

Rd. 2, pick 34: Patrick Chung* S. Tenure on the team: 2009-2012. Currently: Playing for the Eagles.
Who did the Patriots miss out on?

The * is simply because the Patriots actually traded their first round pick twice, losing out on Clay Matthews.

Rd. 2, pick 42: Jarius Byrd S. Pretty simple here, while Chung has some speed and could hit hard. Byrd--his Oregon teammate--was too busy making the pro bowl twice now. Also, the Patriots had three chances to grab him, they picked 40th and 41st as well.

Rd. 3, pick 83: Brandon Tate WR. Tenure on the team: 2009-2010. Currently: Playing for the Bengals.
Who the Pats lose out on?

Rd. 3, pick 84: Mike Wallace WR. Yes, Wallace was taken right after Tate. While Wallace wasn't highly touted, he was possibly the best WR on the board at around that time.

2010 NFL Draft:

Rd. 3, pick 90: Taylor Price WR. Tenure on the team: 2010-2011. Currently: Playing on the Jaguars.
Missing out on...
NaVorro Bowman, taken right after Price and Jimmy Graham at pick 95. Sure the Patriots took Hernandez in the 4th round, but we all know where that has led...
