Aaron Dobson: already the worst receiver on the Patriots?

Dobson (#17) showed a lack of physicality on this play,
knocking him off his route and causing the ball to go
right to the other team.
Aaron Dobson has been ruled out for Sunday's game with a hamstring issue. Obviously, we don't know the extent of the injury, but generally hamstrings are not serious.

The real question is, will this be the only time Dobson hits the inactive list?

According to the always astute Mike Reiss, probably not.

ESPNBoston:
Based on the way the preseason unfolded, he's currently behind Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and Kenbrell Thompkins on the receiver depth chart, and with fellow rookie receiver Josh Boyce providing more special teams value, Dobson currently looks like the No. 5 option on game day. Some weeks, that might not be enough to dress depending on injuries to others.

This is extremely troubling to hear for a second round pick. A round Belichick has had less than stellar luck drafting in.

Dobson hasn't had a very good camp or preseason, he's produced some nice very nice catches but has been widly inconsistent. After the first preseason game he saw his playing time plummet. The most concerning stat with Dobson was that he was the intended target on 4 interceptions, those came in just the last two games. One of those interceptions didn't end up counting after Giants' Prince Amukamara stepped out of bounds. However, for the purpose of preseason (player evaluation) it certainly does.

While some may say that its early and with time the rookie will come around, however, things like not fighting for the ball or securing a catch are a problem, it's much more worrisome than if he were, say, not grasping the scheme quite yet - which is likely another problem as well.

Time will certainly tell, but the little time we've seen of Dobson so far hasn't been good.
