Patriots Continue Cap Cut with Michael Hoomanawanui's Contract
The Patriots are continuing an aggressive offseason of cuts and waiver moves with a recent contract restructuring of Michael Hoomanawanui's contract. According to ESPNBoston, Hoo-Man was set to earn $1.3 million in base salary this year; however, with the new contract, he will be most likely receiving less than that.
The new contract is set at $630,000 as a base, with incentives adding onto that with increased playing time. The incentives look as follows:
$125,000 if he plays 25 percent of snaps
$250,000 if he plays 35 percent of snaps
$370,000 if he plays 45 percent of snaps
To break $1 million, Hoo-Man will have to be on the field for the 45 percent of snaps - the max amount listed in his restructuring. Given what we know from last year, Hoo-Man will not reach that number because he only played 22.8 percent of snaps last year. Independent variables like Gronk's health could cause that number to spike, but no matter what, the Patriots are still saving cap on Hoo-Man.
