Sebastian Vollmer injured

A noticeably large presence was missing from the Patriot's offensive line during the second half of Sunday's victory over the Bucs. Sebastian Vollmer, the right tackle who was resigned in the off-season to a four year deal worth up to 27 million dollars, left during the first half and did not return with an apparent foot injury.

While the severity of Vollmer's injury is not known, reports emerged today that he was spotted leaving the stadium in a walking boot.

Along with Logan Mankins, Vollmer has anchored the team's offensive front since being drafted in 2009. Going into the off-season, many wondered if the Patriots would be willing to invest the big money in him, as he was set to secure a big payday on the open market.

But the team obviously felt protecting Tom Brady as he enters the later years of his career was a top priority, and Vollmer was too valuable to part ways with.

Losing Vollmer comes at an inopportune time for the team, as they head into a difficult three game stretch where they face the Falcons, Bengals, and Saints. The first two of those games will be played on the road. We will see over the course of this week just how serious the injury is.
