Patriots place Jerod Mayo on IR, officially out for season


There was some slight hope that Jerod Mayo could return for maybe the playoffs this year, but that just went out the window with the team electing to place him on season ending injured reserve.


A report last night indicated that Mayo had pectoral surgery, a minor tear would've held him out until maybe the playoffs. The fact that the Patriots have placed him on IR almost immediately indicates that this was a more serious variant.

The team is now without both of their defensive captains, Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo. That's a huge loss of leadership for a unit that was looking it's best in 5 years.
