Chopping Block: Isaac Sopoaga likely to be shown the door

With the window for ring number four closing, the Patriots need to make this offseason count and get weapons for Brady and key playmakers on defense in order to put this team into Super Bowl contention. The only problem is the Patriots don't have much cap space to play with.

So the first step of the offseason will be opening up cap space to resign players and sign free agent talent. Cutting DT Isaac Sopoaga will go along way in freeing up space.

Sopoaga was acquired by the Pats in a trade with the Eagles (the Patriots sent over a 2014 sixth-round pick for a 2014 fifth-round pick) and only managed two tackles on the season. Supposed to help fill the void left by Vince Wilfork, Sopoaga struggled making an impact as was inactive during the playoffs. Releasing Sopoaga would open up around 3.6 million dollars in cap space, which would go a long way in helping to resign Talib or Edelman.
