Donte Stallworth says Belichick is wrong about Welker, and he knows it

Oooh, what now?

Patriots former receivers are banding together in the defense of Patriots former receivers.

Donte Stallworth, who played with the Pats in 2007 and was present for training camp last year, took to twitter to call out Bill Belichick today.

The Patriots coach, of course, said this morning that Wes Welker's hit that knocked out Aqib Talib was one of the worst plays he's ever seen.

Stallworth disagreed.

I'm inclined to agree more with Stallworth and all of the others coming out of the woodwork to say Welker's hit wasn't dirty. Still, I don't fault Belichick's strategy here in saying that.

For one, Michael Hoomanawanui was flagged for an illegal pick earlier in the game, Welker's hit went unflagged. The inconsistency in those calls is one thing that likely drove Belichick up a wall. I also think, first and foremost, Belichick is standing up for his player.

Over the season, it became pretty evident that Bill had great respect for Talib, even telling the media about going to him for advice on trading for LeGarrette Blount. Talib has now been knocked out of two straight AFC Championship games, and any speculation as to whether or not the Pats might not want him back because of that should probably be quieted by Belichick's firm support of him this morning.
