Former Patriot Reche Caldwell arrested, charged with running an illegal gambling ring

The last time the Patriots played the Colts in a playoff game, Patriots receiver Reche Caldwell had two costly drops that aided a dramatic Colts comeback win. This time, it looks like the former NFL receiver has much bigger problems to deal with.

According to a report from the Tampa Bay Times, Caldwell was one of eight men arrested on Sunday when Tampa police raided a building suspected of housing an illegal gambling operation. Caldwell was held overnight in jail after being charged with running an illegal gambling house and bookmaking. He was released Monday morning on $4,000 bail.

Caldwell was one of three men charged with running the operation. Five other men were also arrested and face lesser charges, including illegal gambling and possession of a controlled substance. Officers seized a gram of the drug Ecstacy during the raid, along with cash and two handguns.

Caldwell caught 61 passes for 760 yards and four touchdowns in 2006, his only season with the Patriots. He was amongst the team's final cuts prior to their record setting 2007 season, and found himself out of football a year later after a failed stint with the Redskins.

His younger brother, Andre, is a receiver for the Denver Broncos. Coincidentally, Andre Caldwell caught two touchdowns in Denver's last matchup with their Divisional Round opponent, the San Diego Chargers.

This stunning story is enough to make my eyes pop out of my head.
