Seahawks' defense carrying their team to the Super Bowl

The Champions have been decided and even though it was depressing to see the Patriots not continue this miraculous season, the Super Bowl still leaves a lot to look forward to. Mainly it is the game of the best offense in the history of the NFL against the best defense in the NFL. I honestly can’t wait to see how this game pans out.

But that is getting ahead of ourselves. I hope the Broncos were watching this game closely because everything about the Seahawks defense was on display this game.

Let’s start at the defensive line. The Seahawks have a strong pass rush and have both speed and play making ability at the defensive ends. They are able to constantly apply pressure to the quarterback and force him out of the pocket. No play better demonstrated this than Cliff Avril’s strip sack of Kaepernick in the 4th quarter. Avril, along with fellow pass rusher Michael Bennett, got around the right tackle and flushed Kaepernick out of the pocket. Avril then swatted the ball out of Kaep’s hands and Bennett made the recovery and was able to get a few yards after grabbing onto the football.

Next up, the linebackers for the Seahawks were all over the field today, completely contained Frank Gore on the ground and, for the most part, containing Vernon Davis. Gore ended the game with only 14 yards on 11 carries. That’s controlling the line of scrimmage. K.J. Wright and Bobby Wagner have come into their own and become key pieces to this team's front seven. There were multiple plays tonight were Wagner was in the backfield before Gore knew what to do.

And everyone knows about this secondary. The Seahawks boast the best secondary in the NFL, full of tough, big, physical corners who aren’t afraid to get in your face and make you work for the football. Obviously they made the biggest play of the game when Richard Sherman tipped up a Kaepernick pass and it landed right in the arms of Malcolm Smith to end the game. This secondary gives any team fits but they were all over the Niner's receivers tonight, holding Kaepernick to only 153 yards and two interceptions. Plus we all now know that Sherman thinks he is the shit.

Honestly, I could go on an entire rant about Sherman but I’ll just say this, act like you’ve been here before Sherman. Don’t be a dick.

In a game neither offense could get much going and the defenses would decide the outcome, the Seahawks defense made the plays that needed to be made when they had to happen. They strip sacked Kaepernick in the 4th, they controlled the 49ers rushing attack and they picked off the game winning pass. The defense prides itself on playing hard nosed football and this will prove to be a nightmare for the Broncos in the Super Bowl.
