Austin Serefin Jenkins meets with McDaniels

Austin Serefin Jenkins of Washington is one of the top 2 or 3 tight ends in the 2014 and, according to the Boston Herald, he met with Josh McDaniels at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. He and Jace Amaro are behind only North Carolina's Eric Ebron and are projected to possibly go as early as the end of the 1st round when the draft comes according to the Herald. Jenkins is in the Rob Gronkowski mold, checking in at 6'5" and 262 pounds, so he would fit well with the Patriots system. He showed a lot of promise - he had his best statistical year in his sophomore year with 69 catches for 852 yards and 7 TD's, according to the Herald. The Herald reports that his stats dropped (8 TD's, a career high, but only 450 yards), which he attributes to him becoming more of a blocking tight end.

That would be exactly the type of receiver that would thrive in the Patriots system, not to mention the Patriots have had success drafting tight ends in the past. Both Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez (pre-his arrest) have been very successful in the system and adding another tight end like Gronk would help the Patriots immensely, I think.

He was also straightforward when confronting the one black mark on his resume - a DUI incident a year ago.

"People might say I have character issues. It was one incident. You can look through my history," Seferian-Jenkins said. "It's a learning lesson. I learned it. It's one incident, and that doesn't change who I am."

It seems like he's learned his lesson from the one incident, and I think he'd be a good fit despite that one black mark. He showed personal accountability with this, which is one of the hallmarks of the supposed "Patriots Way."
