MassLive: McDaniels wanted Cleveland job

Masslive.com is reporting that offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels wanted the Cleveland Browns head coaching position, but some in the Cleveland front office didn't want McDaniels as the head coach.

Per Masslive:
In some corners, however, McDaniels was the leading the candidate. Both owner Jimmy Haslam and recently fired general manager Michael Lombardi wanted to give the New England Patriots offensive coordinator a new address and job title. Former CEO Joe Banner, who also was recently fired, was not sold on McDaniels.

Despite the differing opinions, Cleveland.com reports that McDaniels remained in the running until right up until the Browns hired Mike Pettine to fill the vacancy on Jan. 23. The sire reports that McDaniels had the support and recommendation of Bill Belichick "right up until the 11th hour."

I wish McDaniels had gone to Cleveland, but no dice. Knowing Cleveland, though, he'll have another shot pretty soon (at least I hope so!) Alas, we're stuck with him for now. His play-calling in the AFC Championship was the last straw for me. I think he was thinking "Brady's gonna bail me out again!" His play-calling in that game was too simplistic and was never going to succeed against Denver. But, again, we're stuck with him for the time-being.
