Alfonzo Dennard is in jail

Looking on the bright side here: At least he didn't murder someone.

Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, coming off his second season in the league, reported to a Nebraska prison today to begin serving his sentence for an assault on a police officer charge stemming from an incident outside a Lincoln, Nebraska bar in 2012.

This occurred in the midst of Dennard's senior year at Nebraska, where he had a successful college career and was projected to be a middle round pick in the draft before he was charged with the assault. As a result, the Patriots were able to pick him up in the seventh round. Despite recently getting abused by Demayrius Thomas in the AFCG loss to the Broncos, he has been a solid corner in the secondary over the course of his first two seasons.

Dennard's legal problems became more complex this past summer, when he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, again in Nebraska. This arrest happened while he was in Lincoln for a court appearance for the assault charge. While the charge was later dismissed, Dennard was ultimately sentenced to serve 60 days in prison for his original charge, along with three years of probation.

As a result of good behavior and time served, Dennard will have to serve at least 35 days before he becomes eligible for early release. Unlike jailed former Patriot Aaron Hernandez, Dennard should be seeing the light of day sometime in the near future.
