Houston Texans have interest in Ryan Mallett

Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallet may be on the move this off-season.

The Houston Texans, at the helm of new coach and former Pats offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, are apparently interested in acquiring the QB.

MassLive.com:
The Texans, who hold the first pick in May's draft and are in need of a quarterback, have expressed interest in acquiring Mallett, according to a league source. However, the source also noted that nothing is definite and classified the current level of involvement as "talk."

Mallet has a bit of an interesting story. He was one of the highest touted prospects entering the 2011 draft, but fell all the way to the third round due to off field concerns. Mallet played in a pro style offense at University of Arkansas, partly due to a public intoxication charge in 2009.

He landed in the ideal situation, getting to learn behind Tom Brady for the past three years. O'Brien knows Mallett well from his days in New England, and Houston has a desperate need at the quarterback position.

Mallett has been involved in plenty of trade rumors since he was drafted. Since the Pats took him in the third round, the rumor has been that they would demand a second round choice for him.
