Michael Vick officially signs with the New York Jets

Just minutes after the Jets announced that they were cutting Mark Sanchez, they officially announced the signing of Michael Vick.

The quarterback who in some ways revolutionized the position with his breakneck speed, will now be in a battle with sophomore Geno Smith for not only number 7 but also the starting job.

Michael Vick is just the kind of signing the Jets seem to love.

Flashy and useless.

Vick has always possessed a massive amount of talent and sheer athletic greatness, but his biggest problem has been staying on the field. Vick is not guaranteed to be a starter on this team, but he'll certainly give them some headlines.

The Patriots have never actually faced Michael Vick in his entire career, so if Vick unseats Geno Smith, or if he is healthy for the games, that could change in 2014.

Vick has had quite the career.

His struggles with the law are well documented, as he went from Atlanta Falcons star to guy in jail after being convicted of dog fighting charges.

He eventually made a return to the NFL, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles to backup Donovan McNabb. For a little while, it looked like we might've never seen Vick start another game, but he erupted on the scene in 2010.

With Donovan McNabb gone from Philly, Kevin Kolb was the Eagles starter. However, he was injured in the team's Week 1 game against the Packers, setting the stage for Vick to finally become a starter - and he delivered. He was in the MVP discussion that year, throwing for over 3000 yards, 21 touchdowns but also rushing for 676 yards and 9 touchdowns.

He was never able to replicate that production, or stay healthy. He went down with injury as the Eagles starter last year and was permanently replaced by the impressive Nick Foles.
