Patriots make first move, re-sign Michael Hoomanwanui for two years

Woo! Free-agency!

The Patriots have kicked off the coming new season with an extension for once pending free-agent tight end Michael Hoomanawanui.

The tight end was largely invisible in his short career as a Patriot. He was signed off of the Washington Redskins' practice squad in 2012, after spending time with Josh McDaniels when he was offensive coordinator in St. Louis.

His role increased somewhat this past year with Gronk out of the lineup. While he has an impressive one-handed touchdown grab, that was essentially the only highlight he had as a Patriot.

Still, he knows the system and has apparently performed well enough for the team to feel confident in keeping him around for depth. Tight end still remains a need though.
