Matthew Slater talks preparation for upcoming season

Voluntary team workouts for the Patriots started on Monday with the likes of Darrelle Revis, Tom Brady, Jerod Mayo, and of course special teams captain, Matthew Slater in attendance.
"There's a lot to be excited about. Some extremely talented players we've added to the roster, along with some extremely talented players that we've had here for a while. All that's on paper. It doesn't even mean anything right now. We haven't even had one practice together. We have a long ways to go."
Expectations for the team seem higher than ever considering the additions of Darrelle Revis, Brandon Browner, and Brandon LaFell among others, and Slater says the preparation starts now even with over 4 months until the beginning of the season.
"It really starts now. It starts with physically preparing your body, building chemistry – going back to the basics. There's a lot of work that goes into us showing us September and playing a game. We're a long ways away. We know that."
The workouts that started at the beginning of this week are conditioning drills run by the strength and conditioning coaches and this lasts 9 weeks. The second set of offseason workouts are positional drills but the offense and defense cannot lineup against each other. And in the third phase the "O" and "D" can finally face each other. As fans, we're also in the dog days of the offseason. We just want to watch some ball. @joeloobs @PatriotsLife
