John McClain: Texans not interested in Mallet

Houston Chronicle reporter John McClain is reporting that the Ryan Mallet deal is dead (tweet below), while Ben Volin adds that the trade died on Thursday.

While it's not clear what turned the Texans away from the deal, a fair guess would be that the two teams couldn't agree on what the Patriots would get back for Mallet. Either the Patriots wanted more than Mallet was worth or the Texans didn't want to give up what it would cost to get him. It comes down to the same thing no matter which way you slice it - the teams likely couldn't agree. Either that or Houston thought Ryan Mallet wasn't the right fit for their system. This is all speculation, but does anyone else have better explanation? If you do, leave a comment below.
