Patriots pick QB Jimmy Garoppolo in the second round

Garoppolo will learn behind Tom Brady

In a surprising pick, your New England Patriots have selected Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with their second round pick (62 overall).

Garoppolo was projected as an early second round pick, but slipped to 62 after Houston passed on him and Oakland took Derek Carr instead. Most had him as the fifth best quarterback in the draft, behind Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles, Teddy Bridgewater and Derek Carr.

Garoppolo becomes the highest drafted quarterback by the Patriots in the Bill Belichick era, and the highest by the franchise since Drew Bledsoe was taken #1 overall in 1993.
