Kevin Williams signs with the Seattle Seahawks

Earlier today, I posted here at PatriotsLife on free agent DT Kevin Williams, speculating about his potential role in New England. The six-time Pro Bowler visited with the Patriots last week, and was an intriguing possibility for a rotational role as an interior pass rusher.

How quickly things change. It's time to drop any dreams of Williams in a Pats uniform, as ESPN's Ed Werder reports today that Williams has signed with the Seahawks. Per Werder, it is a one year deal exceeding $2 million.

Just as he would have in New England, Williams will play in a rotational role in Seattle, splitting reps with the likes of Tony McDaniel, Brandon Mebane, Jesse Williams and Jordan Hill. However, Seattle's offer was likely higher than New England was willing to go for a rotational player.

With Williams out of the picture, the Patriots will have more riding on the health of injured DTs Vince Wilfork, Tommy Kelly, Dominique Easley and Armond Armstead. That duo (plus Sealver Siliga and Chris Jones) has the potential to be a major strength on paper, but there are unique and legitimate health concerns surrounding each player.
