Dan Koppen is shocked and not shocked by Logan Mankins trade
Of all the crazy Logan Mankins stats, the craziest one to me is the "0" next to Super Bowl champion.

I don't think it is crazy that G Logan Mankins has zero Super Bowl rings. He is two plays away from having two rings. To single out a player that played with a torn ACL so his team could have a chance to win is worth something. It can't just be about a ring.
Rings
4 - Will Perdue, Chicago Bulls center
4 - John Salley, Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers forward
3 - Patrick Pass, New England Patriots running back
2 - Tyrone Williams, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver. Did not play in Super Bowls XXVI or XXVII.
Jimmy Toscano, CSNNE:
"I'm shocked but then again I'm not shocked," Koppen said. "Bill's always said, he's said this publicly, privately, he's gonna do what's best for the team. And right, wrong, or indifferent to anybody's opinion he's going to do it without any hesitation. In this case he felt this was a better move for the team going forward in the long run."
The offensive line is obviously going through a major transformation now with the trade of Mankins, and previously the retirement of offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia. Now, Dave DeGuglielmo will coach a young line that has plenty of growing up - together - to do.
While the door slammed shut on Logan Mankins, it opened for Josh Klein, Marcus Cannon, Jordan Devey, Bryan Stork, Ryan Wendell, Dan Connolly and Cameron Fleming. In 2009, the Richard Seymour trade fallout lingered all season resulting in a 10-7 record following the playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
"It's going to play out like it always does," Koppen said of the locker room.
Let's hope the 2014 Patriots team is more mentally tough than the 2009 group. A 10-7 record after all the blood, sweat and tears of a long season is really a waste of time. The 2014 team has wiped away the tears, and is ready to be coached up.
"It's not personal. It's strictly business."
