Did Ryan Mallet blow it?

Its only been one preseason game but the excuses about Ryan Mallet are flooding Patriots nation. Last night was supposed to be a great example of the fourth year quarterback's strength as a NFL starter. It should have been fuel for teams like Oakland, Houston, Tampa or Arizona to pursue the bait known as Ryan Mallet. Instead Mallet went 5/12 for 55 yards.

The biggest problem with that is not that Mallet sunk himself, but he looked stale in comparison with Kurt Cousins, who went 9/13 for 101 and a TD. Here is an interesting point by Ben Volin of The Boston globe: Mallett gives the Patriots peace of mind as Brady’s backup. He definitely has the skill set to manage the team if Brady ever went down, like Matt Cassel did.
"But the bigger question revolving around Mallett isn’t whether he should be starting for another team — it’s whether the Patriots made a mistake by choosing him over Brian Hoyer in 2012. With as good as Hoyer has looked in Cleveland, the Patriots could’ve/should’ve just held onto him and used that third-round pick on a player who could have contributed over the last four years."
Perhaps he was a bit over hyped by NFL draft guru Mike Mayock last week on NFL.com:
"I was blown away today. I saw a legitimate NFL starting quarterback today backing up Tom Brady," Mayock said after Monday's scrimmage versus the Redskins. "So as the season progresses and we get closer to draft time and what the Patriots can or can't do with him, I think they drafted Jimmy Garoppolo for a reason, as an insurance policy. But trust me, Ryan Mallett's a starting quarterback in this league, and he popped today."
To which other NFL analysts  responded:
But what do you think about Mallet ?
Is he done?
What would you trade him for ?
Would you keep him ?

We want to hear from you because obviously the reviews have been mixed. Comment below.
