Redskins Safety and former Patriots first round pick Brandon Meriweather has been suspended yet again for you got it, a helmet to helmet hit.

Aaron Wilson, Baltimore Sun:
The NFL has suspended Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather for two games for an illegal hit on Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith.

Meriweather was penalized for a personal foul for hitting a defenseless receiver in the head and neck area when he struck Smith in the second quarter Saturday night during the Ravens' 23-17 victory. Smith was unhurt on the play.

Meriweather also hit Ravens running back Bernard Pierce in the head, causing a concussion and forcing him out of the game, but it was a legal hit.

This is the 6th time 5 seasons that Meriweather has been suspended by the league, and the third time since he landed in Washington back in 2012. He's earned a reputation around the league as being one of the dirtiest and senseless players in the NFL, and just doesn't seem to learn from the suspensions and fines he's faced over the years.

Meriweather was cut by New England back in 2011, after a 2010 campaign where he was suspended, and fined on  numerous occasions, definitely not up to Bill Belichick's standards.
After being cut by the Patriots he went on to play one season in Chicago, where he was fined for a helmet to helmet hit one week, then for an illegal roughness call the very next week.

After being cut by the Bears following the 2011 season he was given another chance by the Redskins. Here we are 2 seasons into his Washington stint and the illegal hits and cheap shots won't stop. It's hard to tell whether or not he's ignorant to the fact that his tackling technique needs some serious reconstruction, or if he's just plain dumb, maybe a little of both.

Meriweather's complete disregard for the rules on player safety, and lack of respect for the game has people wondering how much longer the league will let him go, especially with Roger Goodell calling the shots. 6 suspensions in 5 years should be intolerable, and I'm a little shocked to see him only getting a 2 game slap on the wrist for this one. Goodell understands who Meriweather is however, and I wouldn't be surprised if his next suspension will be the final straw. Time will tell, but in the meantime Brandon Meriweather needs to get his act together, or his days playing football are numbered.
