Patriots acquire Ben Bass from Cowboys

Per a report by ESPN Boston, the Patriots have acquired defensive lineman Ben Bass from the Dallas Cowboys in a deal that sent corner back Justin Green to Dallas.

Bass. an undrafted free agent from Texas A&M, signed with Dallas in 2012 but has only played in 2 games (both in 2012). He spent all of the 2013 season on the injured reserve list with a number of injuries.

Whether he makes the Patriots roster or not is unclear, but for the time being, he adds defensive line depth as both Sealver Silga and Chris Jones have missed recent practices due to injury. Injuries have been a major concern for the rest of the defensive line, with Vince Wilfork, Tommy Kelly and Dominique Easly all coming back from major injuries.

As for Justin Green, there was really no place for him after the Patriots secondary was bolstered by the additions of Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner, so maybe he can help the non-existent Cowboy defense. Maybe. Probably not, though - I don't think there's any help for Dallas...at least not this year. They'll be without a lot of their core through a combination of injury and suspension, so they'll go from really bad to worse.
