Patriots shoot Patriots hopes of extra cap relief in foot

That isn't a typo, as the release of Tommy Kelly ended up costing the Patriots a 855 thousand dollar credit for next season per PatsCap.com:

If Tommy Kelly was cut this weekend instead of being granted the favor of an early cut (a typical Bill Belichick show of respect for veterans), then the team may have ended up getting that relief. The Patriots don't shoot themselves in the foot often, and this is by no means a large issue, but since a business error is so rare in the offices of the Pats it's certainly noteworthy.

Sopoaga is now a free agent and Tommy Kelly is playing in the best division in football. Certainly shows how quickly fortunes turn as teams narrow to 53 men.
