St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford suffers season ending knee injury

The St. Louis Rams have been down this road before. Dick Vermeil was the head coach in 1999 when starter Trent Green was lost for the season.

Jim Thomas, St.louis Post-Dispatch:

In 1999, Green was slated to be the starter for the Rams, but suffered a season-ending injury in a preseason game on a hit to the knee by Rodney Harrison, a player for Green's former team, the San Diego Chargers.

The Rams are in need of a reliable arm after Sam Bradford's season-ending injury, but sources say Sanchez has no interest in leaving Philadelphia.

Satchel Price, SBNation:
The calls for Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins came almost immediately after news of Bradford's injury broke. The team in D.C. seems set to use Robert Griffin III as its quarterback entering next season, and that means more of the countless rumors surrounding Cousins and his inevitable trade.

The usual suspects are available, at the right price. Ryan Mallett of the New England Patriots(Arkansas)and Chase Daniel of the Kansas City Chiefs(Missouri). Terrelle Pryor of the Seattle Seahawks(Ohio State) is still only 25. In house candidates are 6th round pick, Garrett Gilbert of SMU and undrafted free agent, Austin Davis from Southern Mississippi.

The answer is Mark Sanchez of the Philadelphia Eagles. The offensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams is Brian Schottenheimer, formerly of the New York Jets. The cost of a 2nd round pick is a fair deal. The Eagles may be as desperate as the Rams.

Reuben Frank, CSN Philly.com:
The Eagles currently have 51 players under contract in 2015, and their combined cap figure is $144,766,514.

Several members of that 2012 draft class will be eligible for contract extensions after the season, and there is no way the Eagles would risk losing Nick Foles, Brandon Boykin, Mychal Kendricks and Fletcher Cox through free agency after the 2015 season, so re-signing those four after 2014 will be imperative for the Eagles next winter.

In 1999, Dick Vermeil found his Super Bowl winning QB staying right next to him on the sidelines with a clipboard. The backup was a former stock boy who once made $5.50 an hour at the HY-Vee grocery store in Cedar Rapids. There is only one Curt Warner.

If the Rams want a backup to lead them, then go with Shaun Hill. He is the definition of one having spent 12 years riding the pine. If they want to survive in the NFC West, make the safe play for Mark Sanchez. He is the best QB available.
