The J-E-T-S want their fans to go crazy for chant leader

Associated Press, USA Today:
The J-E-T-S chant is in the hands of the F-A-N-S.

The New York Jets are holding an online contest to pick eight season ticket holders — one for each home game — to lead the team's familiar rallying cry this year.

Season ticket holders will be able to submit a video of 15 seconds or less of themselves leading the chant. Fans will then choose their favorite entries on the team's website, and the eight top vote-getters will get the crowds at MetLife Stadium fired up.

The original J-E-T-S cheerleader was Ed Anzalone of East Rutherford, NJ. He was known as “Fireman Ed”. Ed would lead the fans in their famous J-E-T-S chant while wearing his Jets jersey #42 in honor of his favorite player, Bruce Harper. At the start of the 2012 season, Ed changed to wearing #6 in honor of Jets starting QB, Mark Sanchez. Following the three fumbles by the Jets in their Thanksgiving evening game in 2012 against the New England Patriots, Ed left at halftime and closed his twitter account.

"It takes a special someone to get 80,000 people to quiet down and then have them go crazy," said Seth Rabinowitz, the Jets' senior vice president of marketing and fan engagement.

The Los Angeles Rams "Fearsome Foursome" consisted of: DE Lamar Lundy, DE Deacon Jones, DT Roosevelt Grier and DT Merlin Olsen. Jones and Olsen are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The New York Jets will lineup from left to right: Barnum, Bailey, Smoke and Mirrors. The circus is in town for 16 weeks. And the hits just keep on coming.
