Tommy Kelly signs with Cardinals
Veteran defensive tackle Tommy Kelly, who was cut this past week by the Patriots has quickly found a new home in Arizona. The Cardinals have reportedly inked the 33 year old lineman to a one-year deal. He will be entering his tenth NFL season. The Cardinals also signed former Patriots lineman Isaac Sopoaga this past week.
Kelly was productive while healthy last season for the Patriots, accumulating 12 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery in 5 games before tearing his ACL against the Bengals, sidelining him for the remainder of the year.
While Kelly was considered by many to be on the roster bubble heading into camp, he impressed in the pre-season and seemed to be a shoe-in for the roster given his strong performance, veteran experience, and modest salary. His cut came as a surprise.
Some speculated that Kelly may be brought back on after Week 1, but that can now be put to rest as Kelly has found a new team in the most competitive division in football.
